検死官は、公的に突然死や暴力的な死、原因不明の死亡などを調査する役人です。地域によっては、死亡原因の決定も行います。

法律・医学・報道などの分野でよく使われます。『coroner』は『medical examiner』とは異なることがあります。「coroner’s report」や「coroner ruled〜」のような形で登場します。
