作動詞時，表示法院正式判定某人犯有罪行。作名詞時，指已經被判有罪的人，尤其是正在服刑的人。

這個詞多用於法律語境，因此語氣較正式。動詞常見搭配有 'convict someone of murder/fraud'。不要和 'suspect' 或 'accuse' 混淆：只有法院作出裁決後，某人才是 'convicted'。
