コンテストは、何かで他の人よりも優れていることを競い合うイベントです。また、公式に決定や結果に異議を唱える場合にも使います。

『コンテスト』は『歌のコンテスト』や『写真コンテスト』のように名詞としてよく使われます。動詞の『contest』は公式な場面での異議申し立てで使われますが、日常的には『competition』の方がよく使われます。
