領事（りょうじ）

Definition

領事とは、自国の市民を助け、その国の利益を守るために外国の都市に派遣される政府の役人です。

'領事'は主に国際的・外交的な場面で使います。大使（ambassador）とは異なり、主に自国民のサポートなど実務的な業務を担当します。

The consul helped me renew my passport at the consulate.
