フォーマルやセミフォーマルな場面でよく使われます。感情的に強い印象や衝撃を与える場面（'a confronting image'）にも使われます。例：'confronting a problem', 'confronting someone'。必ずしもネガティブではなく、勇気を示すこともあります。
