競争や大会、ビジネスなどで他と勝負しようとする人や会社のこと。

ビジネスやスポーツ、コンクールなど幅広く使います。特に会社同士の場合は『競合』も使われます。『opponent』は直接対決の試合などで使うことが多いです。
