勝ちたい気持ちが強い人や、競争が激しい業界や価格など、競争があることを指します。

人を指す場合、勝負にこだわる性格を表します。ビジネスや価格でも使います。『competent』(有能な)とは異なります。やや攻撃的な印象を与える場合もあります。
