Definition

くしや指で髪や毛並みを整えること。また、何かを探しながら細かく調べることも意味します。

髪をとかす表現（'combing hair'）が一般的ですが、'combing through'のように何かを詳しく調べる意味でも使われます。継続的な動作を表す場合が多いです。

She is combing her hair in the mirror.

彼女は鏡の前で髪を**とかして**いる。

He spent an hour combing the dog's fur.
