「closest」は場所や時間で一番近いこと、または人間関係で最も親しいことを表します。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

たいてい「the closest」と使われます。「my closest friend」は物理的な近さではなく、最も親しい友人のこと。「nearby」は最上級ではないので間違えないようにしましょう。
