'গোপন' শব্দটি বিশেষভাবে অবৈধ বা সন্দেহজনক কার্যক্রম বোঝাতে ব্যবহৃত হয়; 'clandestine meeting', 'clandestine operation' ইত্যাদি কথা পাওয়া যায়। কথ্য ভাষায় 'secret' বা 'hidden' বেশি প্রচলিত।
