Definition

主にキリスト教の儀式で子どもに名前を付けること、または船などに初めて名前を付けること。

主に宗教的儀式や公式な場で使われますが、冗談で物の名前を付ける時にも使われます。宗教の場合は「洗礼を授ける」と表現します。

The parents decided to christen their baby Anna.

両親は赤ちゃんを「Anna」と**命名する**ことに決めた。
