Definition

誰かや何かを捕まえるために追いかけること。また、成功や夢などを強く求めて努力することも表します。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

動物、警察、子供などとよく使われます。「chase after」は強調表現です。「catch」は捕まえる意味で、追いかけても必ずしも捕まえるわけではありません。
