Uma catedral é uma igreja cristã grande e importante, normalmente a mais importante de uma cidade ou região e geralmente a sede de um bispo.

Principalmente usada para igrejas cristãs importantes e grandes, em especial as históricas ou com importância arquitetónica. Diferente de 'igreja' (templo cristão geral) e 'capela' (mais pequena, usualmente privada). Colocações: 'catedral gótica', 'cidade catedral'. Formal.
