Um cânion é um vale profundo e estreito com lados muito íngremes, geralmente formado por um rio ao longo de muito tempo. Costuma aparecer em áreas secas ou montanhosas e pode ser muito grande.

É usado principalmente em contextos de geografia e viagem. 'Canyon' normalmente sugere uma formação maior e mais impressionante do que 'valley'. Combinações comuns: 'deep canyon', 'steep canyon walls' e 'the Grand Canyon'.
