Definition

「cant」は、特定の集団が使う特別な言葉や言語のことです。外部の人を排除したり、仲間意識を示すためによく使われます。また、宗教や政治についての偽善的・道徳的な話し方も指します。

主にフォーマルや文学的な文脈で使われ、日常会話ではほとんど見かけません。'jargon' としては専門や犯罪集団の隠語（例：thieves' cant）を指します。'偽善的な話' では道徳的なのに不誠実な発言を批判する際に使います。「can't（できない）」と混同注意。
