銃の銃身の内径、または弾の大きさを表します。また、人や物の質や能力の高さを指して使われることもあります。

イギリス英語では 'calibre'、アメリカ英語では 'caliber' と綴ります。技術的には大きさの意味、比喩的には能力や質を表します。「高いcalibreのチーム」「小口径の銃」などの表現でよく使われます。
