何かの縁や始まり。大きな変化や危険が目前に迫っているときによく使われます。
Usage Notes (Japanese)
主に『on the brink of』のような表現で、フォーマルや文学的な場面で使われます。劇的な瞬間（危険や成功など）を意味することが多いです。日常会話で物理的な縁にはあまり使いません。
