Definition

「搭乗」は飛行機や電車、船などに乗ることを指します。また、食事付きで住むこと（寮や下宿など）を指す場合もあります。

旅行関連では「boarding pass」や「boarding gate」でよく使われます。学校や住居では「boarding school」や「room and boarding」のように使い、日常よりフォーマルな響きがあります。「board（板）」と混同しないように。
