平らな板や、教室などで使う書くためのボード、または会社などの役員グループを意味します。

「whiteboard（ホワイトボード）」「board game（ボードゲーム）」「board of directors（取締役会）」などでも使われます。動詞の「to board」は乗り物に乗る意味。『bored』（退屈）と間違えないよう注意。
