恥ずかしさや照れくささ、または後ろめたさで顔が自然に赤くなる状態のことです。強い感情を感じたときによく起こります。

運動や暑さによる顔の赤みには使いません。'blushing bride'は「恥ずかしそうな花嫁」など感情からくる赤ら顔に使います。
