"beneath" in Japanese

下により下の立場で

何かよりも低い位置や階層にあること。また、価値や地位などが劣っていることも表す。

“beneath”は“under”や“below”よりも堅い表現で、文語的です。物理的な下だけでなく、“beneath me”のように価値や重要度が下の場合にも使われます。数字や測定値の場合は“below”がより一般的です。

The shoes are beneath the bed.

靴はベッドの**下に**あります。

A river flows beneath the bridge.

川が橋の**下に**流れています。

The temperature dropped beneath zero last night.

昨夜、気温は**零下に**下がった。

She seems calm, but there's a lot going on beneath the surface.
