〜がなければ〜を除いて

Definition

何かが起こらなければ、何かが起きることを意味する表現。〜を除いて、という意味もある。

文やフレーズの最初で使われるややフォーマルな表現。'except for'や'unless'と似た意味だが、具体的な数値とは使わない。主に書き言葉や発表で使う。

Barring bad weather, the event will happen on Saturday.

**悪天候がなければ**、イベントは土曜日に行われます。

Barring delays, the train will arrive on time.

**遅れがなければ**、電車は時間通りに到着します。

Barring accidents, they should finish the race soon.

**事故がなければ**、彼らはすぐにレースを終えるでしょう。
