山賊とは、主に集団で行動し、旅行者や人里離れた場所を襲って物を奪う人のことです。

「bandit」は昔の話や歴史的な場面でよく使われます。現代の都市泥棒には一般的に使いません。時に子どもなどいたずら好きな人にも冗談で使われます（例：'you little bandit'）。
