何かや誰かが来る、起こる、もしくは準備ができるのを待っている状態。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

「waiting for」よりもフォーマルな場面で使われます。「awaiting your reply」や「awaiting approval」のような表現で手紙やメール、公式な文書に多いです。日常会話ではあまり使いません。
