何かをしようとしたことを表す語。また、未遂の意味でも使われ、行動が完了しなかった場合に使う。

動詞の場合「attempted to ～」と表現。形容詞としては「attempted murder」などフォーマルな場面でよく使われる。日常会話では「tried」がよく使われる。
