"assumes" in Japanese

仮定する思い込む引き受ける

Definition

証拠なしに何かを真実だと仮定することや、役割や責任を引き受けること。

主にフォーマルや文書で使われます。「assume responsibility」は責任を引き受ける、「assume the worst」は最悪と考える、「assume a role」は役割を担う、という使い方に注意してください。「presume」とはニュアンスが異なります。

She assumes he will call her tonight.

彼女は彼が今夜電話すると**思い込んでいる**。

Jack assumes the job will be easy.

ジャックはその仕事が簡単だと**思い込んでいる**。

The teacher assumes her students understand the lesson.
