灰トネリコ（樹木）

Definition

灰は何かが燃えた後に残る灰色や黒色の粉です。また、トネリコという種類の木を指すこともあります。

『灰』は数えない名詞として使われます（例：『灰まみれ』）。火葬の遺灰やタバコなどには複数形『ashes』を使います。『煙（smoke）』と混同しないよう注意。

The paper turned to ash in the fire.

火の中で紙が**灰**になった。
