警察が犯罪の疑いで人を拘束すること。また、何かを止めるという意味でも使われることがある。

主に法的・ニュースの文脈で使われる。「make arrests」は逮捕するという意味。名詞（複数）として使われることが多い。比喩的な使い方（成長の停止など）はまれです。

The police made several arrests last night.
