Definition

数値や量、時間などが正確ではないが実際の値に近いことを示す際に使う。主にフォーマルや事実的な場面で使われる。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

「about」や「around」よりもフォーマルな言い方。数字の前でよく使われる。『約20人』など。「approximately at 6」は不自然なので、『約6時』『6時ごろ』を使う。学術文やビジネス文書でよく使われる。
