通常は警察が誰かを逮捕すること。また、格式ばった表現で何かを理解する意味もある。

主に法的・警察の場面や、学術的な文脈で使われる堅い表現。「apprehend the meaning」は非常に形式的で、日常会話では「comprehend」「understand」のほうが一般的。
