Definition

使徒とは、特定の使命のために派遣された人、特にイエスに選ばれた初期の弟子を指します。また、転じて何かの信念や運動を熱心に広める人にも使われます。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

主にキリスト教、特に「十二使徒」に使われますが、宗教以外にも熱心な推進者を指す場合があります。フォーマル・文学的な響きがあり、『弟子』や『預言者』とは異なります。
