매복은 숨어서 상대를 갑작스럽게 공격하는 것을 의미한다.

주로 군사나 사냥과 같은 맥락에서 사용된다. 예: '매복을 하다', '매복에 걸리다'. 일상적 혹은 긍정적 놀람에는 쓰이지 않는다.
