Definition
突然の痛みや驚きで、犬などがキャンと高い声で鳴くこと。人に対しても使われることがある短く鋭い叫び声。
Usage Notes (Japanese)
主に動物（特に犬）に使われ、人にも使えるが、短く鋭い鳴き声や叫び声に限る。「yelped in pain」のように理由を続けて使う場合が多い。穏やかな声や繰り返しの音には使わない。
