Tomar conciencia de algo importante, especialmente algo que antes se ignoraba. También puede significar despertarse y encontrar o enfrentar algo.

Se usa mucho de manera figurada para descubrir una verdad o problema: 'wake up to the truth.' Literalmente, suele decirse con lo que uno se despierta ('wake up to the sound of...'). Tono neutral o semi-formal.
