法律で認められていないこと。違反や禁止されていることを指す。

「unlawful」は法律用語としてよく使われ、フォーマルな場面が多いです。「illegal」と似ていますが、必ずしも犯罪に限らず、規則違反にも使われます。

It is unlawful to steal from a store.

店から盗むのは**違法な**行為です。
