「未知のもの」は、まだ明らかになっていない物事や人を指します。数学では「未知数」として、xやyのようなわからない数を指すこともあります。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

日常では、わからない物事や事項全般に『未知のもの』を使います。数学では『未知数』（xやyなど）と明確に区別して使います。『strangers』のように人限定ではありません。
