Literalmente, subir el calor o la temperatura (como en una estufa). Figuradamente, aumentar la presión o la intensidad en una situación.

Puede ser literal (cocinar) o figurado (presión, esfuerzo). Es común en deportes, trabajo o negociaciones. Normalmente se dice 'turn up the heat on someone' para indicar presión a una persona. No se usa en contextos muy formales.
