어떤 것이 점점 얇아지거나, 덜 촘촘해지는 과정. 주로 머리카락, 숲, 액체 등에 사용됨.

주로 ‘hair thinning(머리숱이 적어짐)’, ‘forest thinning(숲 솎아내기)’처럼 특정 대상에 사용. 사람 자체에는 잘 쓰지 않음.
