주로 동사를 수식하여 조심스럽거나 임시, 혹은 망설이는 행동을 나타낼 때 씁니다. 확신이나 적극성을 표현할 때는 사용하지 않습니다. 계획이 확정되지 않았음을 나타낼 수도 있습니다.
