누군가가 어려운 상황이나 다툼에서 다른 사람을 대신 옹호하거나 편드는 것.

주로 구어체에서 사용하며, 누군가를 대신해 도와주거나 옹호할 때 쓴다. 'take up'이나 'stand up for'와 혼동하지 않는다.

I always take up for my little brother when he gets in trouble.
