何かが徐々に小さくなったり、静かになったり、弱まったりして最終的には消えてしまうこと。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

非公式な表現で、声や数値、活動などが徐々に減少する時に使う。「his voice tailed off」は声が小さくなるニュアンス。動物の尾には使わない。
