사람, 장소, 사물을 둘러싼 지역, 조건 또는 물건. 물리적인 공간이나 일반적인 환경을 의미할 수 있다.

거의 항상 복수형으로 사용됨. 자주 쓰는 표현: 'safe surroundings', 'familiar surroundings'. 자연 환경과 인공 환경 모두에 사용할 수 있다. 'environment'와 다른 뉘앙스임.

The hotel is in beautiful surroundings.
