警察や誰かが長時間、隠れて場所や人物を監視する状況で、情報を集めたり犯人を捕まえたりするために使われます。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

主に警察や探偵が使う言葉で、日常会話ではあまり使われません。「張り込みをする」などの表現があります。犯罪捜査の場面が多いです。
