직접적으로 또는 똑바로 어떤 일에 마주하거나 해결하는 것. 피하지 않고 솔직하게 행동할 때 사용된다.

'face', 'hit', 'place', 'put' 등과 자주 사용된다. 직접성, 정면성, 솔직함을 강조할 때 쓴다. 'directly'와 달리 시간적 의미보다 방식에 중점 둔다.

He looked me squarely in the eyes.
