مكسور إلى قطع صغيرة حادة، أو مقسَّم إلى عدة أجزاء منفصلة. يُستخدم كثيراً لوصف الخشب أو الزجاج أو المجموعات المنقسمة.

يُستخدم 'splintered' عادة للأشياء الصلبة ('splintered wood') أو لوصف فقدان الوحدة ('a splintered community'). غالبًا ما يشير إلى شظايا حادة وغير منتظمة. لا يُستخدم عادة للأشياء الطرية أو المرنة.
