어떤 물건을 힘껏 부숴 여러 조각으로 만드는 것, 또는 심각한 충돌로 큰 피해가 생길 때 사용한다. 특히 자동차 사고에 자주 씀.

비격식적 표현이고 충돌이나 사고로 부서진 상황에 많이 씀. 영어 'smash up a car', 'had a smash-up'처럼 쓸 수 있다. 'smash'나 'break up'과 혼동 주의.
