長時間、困難や退屈な仕事を一生懸命続けること。

くだけた言い方で、疲れる・単調な作業に対して使うことが多いです。「～に必死に頑張る」や「～を地道に続ける」という文脈で使用されます。楽しい作業にはあまり使いません。
