スケート靴で氷や滑らかな地面の上を滑るように動いたという意味です。「skate」の過去形です。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

『スケートをした』はアイススケートやローラースケートの両方に使えます。「湖でスケートをした」「リンクでスケートをした」など場所と一緒によく使われます。時には「skated through the exam」のように簡単にやり遂げた意味でも使います。
