空中のもの（たとえば飛行機）を撃って落とすこと。提案や考えなどを強く却下する場合にも使われます。

アイデアを却下する際に使うときは、少しきつい印象を与える場合があります（“shoot down an idea”）。軍事や重大な文脈で直訳として使うこともあります。対象語（plane、suggestion等）を明確にしましょう。
