Shell é a cobertura externa dura de algo, como um ovo, uma noz ou um animal marinho. Também pode significar a parte de fora ou a carcaça de um objeto.

É comum com animais marinhos e ovos: 'seashell', 'egg shell'. Para objetos, 'outer shell' e 'protective shell' são combinações frequentes. Não confunda com 'skin', que geralmente é uma camada macia ou tecido vivo.
